Cowgirls and Stargirls and Ramonas and Pattis

What a thrilling night last night. Patti Lee Gauch spoke to our local SCBWI group on Sassy Characters. Patti is an excellent storyteller and she had us all on the edges of our seats as she quoted Star Girl, Holes, Alice, Ramona...
Ramona is a sore spot for me. If Patti will move in with me and read it to me I would love that--but I've never read a Ramona book. I distinctly remember casting her aside more than once as a kid, picking up The Great Brain series and The Bagthorpe Saga instead. Maybe I was already too old for Ramona then? Or not old enough? I think I'm ready for her and her Yard Apes now, though.
Thanks to Patti I've got a list of great books with sassy (or secretly sassy) main characters to pile on my library hold list.
AND while she was urging all of us to make sassy characters in a sassy universe I was feeling good inside. I've been working on a picture book and darn it! My main character IS sassy in all the ways I'd want her to be. Hopefully others will see it, too.

Jaime,
I love your cowgirl but I'm ready for a new blog entry! I want to know what's going on in the den of creativity over there in Ballard.
