What's a sick sullen girl napping on her couch to do when the next Newbery winner's husband arrives at her door with a huge bushel of apples?
Make apple crisp of course! And apple chutney, apple butter, and apple sauce (all my Nana's recipes except for the chutney.)
Mr. Husband-of-Next-Newbery-Winner is one of the niceset men in America. What a pleasant surprise on a Sunday afternoon--a whole bag full of apples from two amazing people. Big thanks to Kirby and Neil. That sort of care and neighborliness is just what I'd expect from Hattie Big Sky. I'm not sure if it is art imitating life or vice versa.
Speaking of which...Aaron and I made jack-o-lanterns. I had him take a picture of them last night AND a picture of the Hattie Big Sky Apple Crisp before we devoured it. Totally delicious...but I think it is weird how much the carvers look like their pumpkins.
